Tips for Saving Time and Money with Walmart Grocery Pickup
Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do. I would even rather do laundry. I’m just not a big fan of the herding of many different children, avoiding the “I want that”s, trying to find exactly what I need at the right price, and staying in budget. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to try out Walmart Grocery Pickup when it was first released in my area. I was skeptical at first, but after using it for over a year, I can say that it has changed my life. So, here are the tips I have found to save me money, time, and sanity using Walmart Grocery Pickup.
What is Walmart Grocery Pickup?
First of all, let’s talk about what Walmart Grocery Pickup is. It’s this wonderful new way of shopping for groceries in my pajamas. Well, in your pajamas. I am wearing mine. Seriously, just download the app, select a time you would like to pick up your order, and add what you need to your cart. Then, the magical grocery fairies (or some like to call them Walmart employees) will get everything you need. Check in with the app during your pick-up time to let them know you’re on the way. Park in a designated parking spot, don’t even get those rowdy kids out of the car, and someone will bring out your order to you. That someone is your unsung hero.
I was never a meal planner. It is the best option for staying within budget, but the idea of taking the time to sit down to plan and write out a list and then going to store to find those things on that list seems impossible when you have a million things on your to-do list. But sitting down to meal plan and simply adding ingredients to my cart seems much more doable. Pickup takes away the need to go grocery shopping so I can spend that time meal planning instead. And hunting for new recipes.
Avoid Unnecessary Purchases
You walk into a store only to get one $5 item and come back out with a $100 dent in your checking account. It has happened to all of us. Online shopping helps to avoid that compulsive shopping. Stores like to entice shoppers with their setups. For example, they put together a display with marshmallows, Hershey’s chocolate, and graham crackers and a picture of a delicious looking s’more. Then all of a sudden three extra items are in your cart. Stick to the items on your list and add them to your online cart.
Find the Lowest Price
Most products are also offered in the Great Value brand and come at a lower price. I did not even know that there were so many Great Value options. I would just grab the name brand off the shelf when shopping in the store. But after doing some digging when online shopping, I found that a lot of products I buy are offered at a lower price when I choose Great Value. This might take some experimenting because sometimes you get what you pay for and the name brand might end up being better. But overall I’ve found that most of what I can get at a lower price is just as good.
Take Advantage of Savings Catcher
This option you can use for either in-store or pickup purchases. On the Walmart app, look for Savings Catcher. Scan or type in your TC#. They compare prices to other stores. If they find a lower price, you get the difference in the form of a Walmart gift card that you can use with Walmart pay.
What if they are out of stock of the item I ordered? If you click to allow substitutions, then they will find you the next best thing. They promise to get an item that’s as good or better at no extra cost. This means you might end up getting that name brand item at the Great Value cost. This, of course, is not guaranteed. If you decide you don’t want the substitution, they will take it off your order and you will receive a refund. They will go over any substitutions with you when they bring your order out.
Save $10 on First Order
Use my referral link to sign up and get $10 off your first order and I get $10 too and the world is a much happier place. But, grocery pickup is not available at every Walmart, or in every region. So, check to make sure pickup is available at a Walmart close to you.
Enjoy Your Extra Time
So what do I do with all that extra time that I didn’t have to shop for groceries? I actually get the laundry done. Sometimes.
