Ahh, Christmas. Tis the season for holly and presents, and Harry Potter. Wait, what? No really, Christmas figures into every Harry Potter story. And so does the Golden Snitch. Anyway, here is a way to combine those things, even if you are a muggle. Or a squib. It’s a DIY Golden Snitch ornament!
Materials
- Plastic gold Christmas tree ball. I picked ones with swirls on them, since it resembles the patterns on the actual snitch from the movies.
- Silver metallic pipe cleaners. Yes, silver. The wings are silver. Google it.
- That’s all. No, really.
Process
Okay, so gather two pipe cleaners per wing, Bend them in half, and cut each one, so you have four pieces per wing. Round about one inch in, bend them in an L shape.
After this, pinch all of the ends together, and twist them up, right at the bend. Twist the shorter ends together, as well.
Pinch the far ends together, and twist them up as well. I would fold it back a little bit, as well, to avoid the pointy ends poking anyone. Make two wings.
Then, using a small screwdriver or the end of a pen, poke two small holes in the sides of the ornament. So long as your holes are small enough, the puffiness of the pipe cleaners should hold them reasonably in place. Poke them into your ornament, and you are done. To achieve the swept back look, just take each wing and wrap it around the ornament. It will spring back with that general shape.
Super easy, and since everything came from Dollar Tree, $2 will get you enough materials to make several. Happy Christmas, everyone!
