Do you like snacks? Are you an adventurous snacker? Would you be intrigued by a snack that could bite you back? Well that’s just silly; you would need live sharks, so you couldn’t put them on until the last second and… Oh, sorry. I got sidetracked. Anyway, these shark cupcakes are super easy and great for any shark-themed event you have coming up. Plus, they incorporate gummy sharks, which are one of the greatest food items in existence.
Why would I do that?
These are an easy, tasty snack. They are perfect for any little shark-lovers you have running around. Or a themed snack for Shark Week. Or for a Jaws party. (That’s a thing, right?) Or Halloween. Or just as an excuse to buy gummy sharks. Really, I feel the question you should be asking here is “Why wouldn’t I do that?”
- Live sharks.
- Wait, no, gummy sharks. (I bought two packs of those gas station size bags, and it was just enough)
- Cake mix (1 box)
- All the other stuff to make the cake mix (varies by brand, usually eggs, veggie oil, water)
- Graham crackers
- Pillsbury Funfetti icing, blue
- cupcake liners
First off, you wanna mix up your cake batter, put the liners in a cupcake pan, and fill them appropriately. Get those bakin’. Next, smash up a package of graham crackers. We smashed up one of the mini-bags that come inside the box. We thusly made way more crumbs than we really needed. So you could just throw 2-3 crackers in a baggie and do it that way, or just save your extra crumbs for something else.
Next up, you want to whip your icing. Just use a hand mixer with a whisk attachment. Not only does this nearly double the amount of frosting you get from one can, it also aerates the frosting. This means you still get a good frosting taste without overpowering the cupcake, like too much frosting can do.
Wait until the cakes are done and cooled somewhat. Then go ahead and frost them up. Dip them in the graham cracker crumbs, up to about the halfway point. Place one gummy shark on the blue (iced) side. One thing to note, if you make these too far in advance, the frosting will sometimes color your crumbs blue. Maybe keep some extra crumbs on hand, just in case.
You’re done. No, really. Go watch Shark Week. Or listen to Baby Shark. Or gaze at the power and graceful, gliding majesty of your pet shark. You know, the one with the laser beam on his head.
