With prime gift-giving time approaching, you might need a little help. Our resident tween, Bear, wrote a Nintendo Switch gift guide for kids his age especially. Also, this post contains affiliate links. If you click on one and buy something, it won’t cost you any extra, but we do get a little something from it. -Jacob
These are some things I saw and decided to put on a Nintendo Switch gift guide. I think they are really cool, and I wanted to explain why I think they are so cool to give you a better idea of why I like them.
The Switch is a little bit like a tablet that is also a game console. You can play full games just on the portable screen, or put it into a base and play through the TV. I can even take it with me in the car, and play while we are running errands! I think it’s super cool that there are so many different ways to use this system. You can attach the Joy-Cons to the console, or use them on a controller base that comes with it. Some games even let you use each Joy-Con as a controller. You can also buy normal-style controllers to go with it.
It’s super-awesome, and it has every single character from past games. There is also something called Stage Morphing, if you don’t know which stage to pick. This option will make it randomly change in the middle of the fight. It looks amazing. This game will be released December 7th.
This sounds like a lot of fun. I already like to play Pokémon Go on the phone, and now you can send Pokémon from Pokémon Go into your game. It even has a Pokéball controller that you can use in-game to catch Pokémon, and you can hear Pikachu inside when you take it with you.
Mario Kart 8 was already one of my favorite games on the Wii U. This edition contains everything that that one did, plus some new content made just for the Switch. I definitely would get it again for the Switch.
This game is another New Super Mario Bros. It is full of new modes, and you can play as Nabbit. These games have always been fun for our whole family. Plus, you can play with just one Joy-Con, so you can play multiplayer right away. This will be released on January 9th but you can preorder now.
I really like this because those game cards are super tiny. They’re even tinier than Nintendo DS cards, and those are small and easy to lose. I also think that it is really cool to have my games in a ? block. It holds 12 games.
Games I Already Own and Recommend
Super Mario Party – Fun multiplayer game. This game can only be used with Joy-Cons so make sure you have enough for everyone to join in.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – This single player game is completely open world. You could play it for hours and never run out of things to do and things to get.
Super Mario Odyssey– It’s fun to do the main story, but you can also search around afterwards to find secret Power Moons. In most kingdoms you can find enough Power Moons to power up with the Odyssey which is the ship without even doing the story. You can also play with a friend as Cappy.
Minecraft – I own this game on the Switch, the computer, and the Xbox One. I like that you can do what you want without set rules. The servers with different minigames are fun too. The version on the Switch comes with Super Mario mashup pack, natural texture pack, and three different skin packs.
Bonus: Kingdom Hearts III
Unfortunately this is not available on the Nintendo Switch, but you can find it on Xbox One and PS4 and it sounds awesome! I saw the trailer and I wanted to play it right then. (it won’t be out until January, so you will need to pre-order it, or maybe spend your Christmas gift cards on it.)
Bowser eats Mario and Luigi! You get to play this game inside of Bowser, and you also get to play as him for the first time in this series. There are epic boss battles as him. Also, Bowser Jr. gets to play with a team of enemies. This game is available for the 3DS.
